My role: Planning consultant and agent.
The scheme: This was a proposed digital outdoor display on the former Yorkshire Post site in Leeds. The installation was the first of its type in the city centre where there were significant issues around its proximity to a highway with the associated safety considerations. I used my specialist knowledge of the circumstances to construct a bespoke strategy for presentation to local authority officers that would overcome any likely objections, working closely with a highways consultant.
My idea was that, although the buildings on the site were to be demolished, the tower would be retained as a marker for what had been there before. The display would be mounted on the tower, which would then be cladded. This scheme broke new ground and won the approval both of the planners and the highways officers.
The outcome: Temporary consent granted for 3 years.
